The Sensitive Price Indicator for the week ended on 22nd June 2023 increased by 0.33% over the last week. The prices of 20 items increased, that of 12 items decreased and 19 items remained unchanged concerning the prices in the previous week.
Overview
The Sensitive Price Indicator is a tool to measure changes in the prices of basic essential items over a short interval of time. In Pakistan, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics gathers and analyses the prices of selected 51 basic essential items from various markets of 17 urban cities of the country. Based on the gathered data, a weekly report is issued every Friday giving an analysis of the current prices and a comparison with the prices of the previous week (WoW) and the corresponding week of the previous year (YoY).
In this article, we will briefly overview the changes in the prices of essential items and their comparisons.
Increase in Prices
During the week ending on 22nd June 2023, the prices of 20 items increased as compared to their prices in the previous week. The prices of Wheat Flour, Potatoes, Sugar, Salt, Daal Mash, Matches, Chicken, Mutton, Beef, Toilet Soap, Curd, Garlic, Fresh Milk, Basmati Rice, Georgette, Gur, Powder Milk, Washing Soap, Bread, and Rice increased during the week. The prices of these items along with their comparison with prices in the previous week and the corresponding week of last year are detailed in the following table:-

Decrease in Prices
During the week, a decrease in the prices of 12 items was recorded in comparison with their prices in the previous week. A decrease in the prices of Bananas, LPG, Onions, Tomatoes, Vegetable Ghee, Cooking Oil, Mustard Oil, Daal Moong, Pulse Gram, Eggs, and Daal Masoor was recorded during the week. The change in prices in comparison with their prices during the last week and corresponding week of last year are elaborated in the table below:-

No change was recorded during the week in the prices of Chillie Powder, Tea, Cooked Beef, Cooked Daal, Prepared Tea, Cigarettes, Long Cloth, Shirting, Printed Lawn, Gents Sandals (Bata), Gents Sponge Chappal (Bata), Ladies Sandal (Bata), Electricity Charges, Gas Charges, Fire Wood, Energy Savor, Petrol, Diesel and Telephone Call Charges.
