The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) is utilized as a tool to gauge the immediate inflation levels of 51 basic essential commodities. Weekly assessments are conducted using data collected from 17 cities in Pakistan, and the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) releases a report every Friday. This report encompasses a comparison of prices from the previous week (Week-on-Week or WoW) and the corresponding week of the previous year (Year-on-Year or YoY).
As per the report on SPI for the week ended on the 6th of July 2023, an increase is recorded in 21 items, a decrease in 11 items, and no change in prices of 19 items.
Increase in Prices
During the week, an increase is recorded in the prices of refined sugar, wheat flour, gur, salt, eggs, energy savor (Phillips 14 watt), toilet soap (Lifebuoy), rice basmati broken, rice IRRI 6/9, milk fresh, matchbox, tea prepared, garlic, Sufi washing soap, daal Mash, potato, dahi, beef with bone, cooked beef, powder milk (Nido) and mustard oil.
